Siskins, Redpolls, Great Spotted Woodpecker
A cool sunny morning again, and just as I arrived at the stream that runs beneath the road, a Great Spotted Woodpecker called and landed in the top of a dead tree. It stayed there for a little while and allowed some photos, and I was able to point it out to some of the regular walkers who were just passing.
Slightly further on, a reasonable group of finches was flitting around the tops of the birches and alders, and on investigation were mainly Goldfinch, but including several each of Siskin and Redpoll. I think the Siskin were my first of the year but I didn't get them on film, and barely managed with the Redpoll.
This made me late to the hide and just as I approached, somebody came out with a big lens and said, "The Kingfisher's showing like mad in there". Needless to say it didn't show at all when I arrived..
