Great Crested Grebe, Metellina sp. (spider)
This morning the sun was shining, and I'd set off round the lake earlier than usual. As I walked along the sunken path on Lake Bank, a Great Crested Grebe was feeding in and out of the rocks and plants just along the shoreline by the path. It was full-frame but difficult to get either a good angle or good lighting - the sun was very directional and causing some contrast issues.
Not a lot else was to be seen, so I stopped to photograph a yellowish spider by the path near the hide. This turned out to be a Metellina sp., most likely segmentata from the date, but is one of the commonest species.
