2 Siskin, Redpoll (h), 2 Goldcrests, Redwings; Shaw Moss: 2 Snipe, several Meadow Pipits, Kestrel, Rook
This morning began calm and clear, with a vivid blue sky, but gradually became overcast. The pair of Siskin were again in residence in the Alders with Goldfinch, and I managed to capture the male this time. As the flock flew off, I could hear a Redpoll. A nice drake Teal was visible on the reserve from the path, and several Redwings were about, but as usual were quite wary; a pair of Bullfinch flitted alongside the path. At Turnough, a party of 11 Long-tailed Tits moved through, and as I reached Shaw Moss, a female Kestrel flew past.
Two Snipe were at the back of the watery patch at Shaw Moss, and several Meadow Pipits fed along the marshy edge. Just before departing, I heard what sounded like a Rook, and spotted it just as it disappeared in the direction of Milnrow. It was indeed a Rook (confirmed by photo, but not worth publishing).
