Meadow Pipits, Skylarks, Linnets, Oystercatcher
I had a long walk this morning, past Syke Farm and up on to the edge of the moor. I guess I was hoping for Dotterel, but nothing to show for it unfortunately. There were a few Meadow Pipits around and several Skylarks on the higher slopes, but otherwise it was rather uneventful. I returned via Rakewood Valley where a highlight was a male Linnet singing from some gorse by the side of the track.
In the early afternoon I went to Chelburn with Andrew, in the hope of seeing Alan's drake Garganey that had been present that morning. Unfortunately we missed it by just a few minutes and there was no further sign in the time we had available. An Oystercatcher perched on a wooden fence gave some photographic opportunity but despite a nice day, things were otherwise relatively quiet.
