16 Goldeneye, 23 Wigeon, 24 Teal
I wasn't feeling too good this morning, but decided to make the effort when a report came through from Simon of a raft of ducks on the lake comprising Goldeneye, Wigeon and Teal. I've not seen Goldeneye so far this year, so this was an opportunity not to be missed. I arrived at the lake in a typical overcast/drizzly March morning when you might expect a duck movement of this scale. The birds were out in the middle in one big raft, so I managed a few distant photos in the gloom.
As I watched from the Wine Press, I noticed a small flock of Lapwings in flight over the far side, and when I got my bins on them realised there was another wader with them. I'd been looking out for the possibility of Golden Plover with the Lapwing flocks for some time, but this bird seemed smaller and slighter than Golden Plover. Unfortunately almost as soon as I spotted them they went out of view and that was it..
