Linnets

A somewhat more overcast day today, and a little breezy.  From the hide, a Grey Heron stood guard just opposite before getting spooked and flying off.  Just recently I'd noticed a plant that's taken root just in the sluice of the stream in front of the hide and wondered what it would be when it flowered.  Well, it now has, and it's a Sunflower.  Not the best day to choose to take a photo, but here it is anyway, with attendant Mallard in the background!

When I reached the pavilion, I spotted a party of finches flying down to the stony bank, and these proved to be around 15 or 20 Linnets.  I tried to approach a little closer, but by the time I'd negotiated the bank, they'd gone.  I did encounter them again a little further round, where they flew down from an Ash tree by the fence, but I wasn't able to get any better photos before they moved off again.
