Had a quick walk around the lake early this morning before setting off to Norfolk. A heron was just by the roadside watching a number of large fish flopping around the water's edge. A couple who'd been watching it before I arrived said it had been catching some big fish, but it must have been satiated by the time I got there, as it didn't seem bothered trying to catch any more. A Common Whitethroat was singing in the hedge nearby, but was very elusive and didn't give itself up for photos. A Wren sang in one of the roadside trees though.
We then went to Norfolk and stopped off at Snettisham where there'd been a Great Reed Warbler. However we managed to somehow get the wrong spot, and there was nobody around to ask for directions before we ran out of time. A Spoonbill flew past followed shortly after by a Little Egret, and I saw a Turtle Dove briefly by the road, flying south. Near the car park a Cetti's Warbler sang briefly then flitted across giving a brief flight view.
After a splendid evening meal at Byford's in Holt, we drove back to the digs (Jex Farmhouse in Little Snoring) and encountered a Red-legged Partridge sitting by the side of the road. I did take some photos but it was too dark and they didn't turn out too well.
