Common Scoter, Little Egret, Common Gulls, Roe Deer

It was raining this morning, but Simon had reported a Common Scoter, so I set off with the umbrella to keep my optics dry.  The scoter was out in the middle of the lake, but the light was very dull and initially I couldn't tell if it was a male or female.  It was off the promontory by the cafe, so decided to try to get a bit closer.  I stopped in the hide for a little while, where a nice (I think young) Roe Deer appeared briefly fairly close and looked straight at the camera.

Further round, the Common Scoter was on view, but not particularly close and although it had now stopped raining, the light was still very dull and the photo is just a record shot.

The weather had improved by lunchtime so I went back for another attempt but the lake was brimming with tourists and boats and there was no sign of the scoter.  The Little Egret was on the reserve however, and a couple of adult Common Gulls were present.
