Common Sandpiper, Grey Heron

A Common Sandpiper was around again this morning, and for once stayed put albeit briefly and somewhat distantly, on the spit by the Pavilion.  The light was rather overcast, and I was photographing through the trees, but managed at least one shot. Not a great deal else around in the morning.

A quick dash round at lunchtime in better weather revealed a Grey Heron on the spit in front of the hide.  I didn't have a lot of time to wait and it spent most of the time preening but it's not often you get one so brazenly out in the open at this time of day.  The Great Crested Grebes were showing signs again of nestbuilding, but not particularly intensively. At one point one swam through the channel just in front of the hide.
