3 Ringed Plovers, Dunlin in morning, then 3 Whimbrel, 7 Dunlin, 3 Ringed Plovers, Common Sandpiper & Redshank in evening.
Went around on bike again this morning; fairly sunny but nothing really new to report, although there were 3 Ringed Plovers together, along with a Dunlin on the exposed mud. Back at the house, a Starling was singing on a wire just outside the back door, glistening in the sunlight.
After work (I finished early after staying till 9pm last night), I decided to chance it again on the bike, though the weather was somewhat overcast, cool and windy. Glad that I did though, because as I arrived at the reserve (in the rain), 3 Whimbrels were on the mud, along with 7 Dunlin and presumably the same 3 Ringed Plovers from this morning. A Common Sandpiper on the reserve and a Redshank added to the wader total. Calling at Shaw Moss on the way back, a pair of Snipe flew up, but precious little else. The Whimbrel appeared to fly off initially, but landed on the spit by the pavilion, and I managed to get fairly close without disturbing them because of the group of fir trees there. They then flew back onto the nature reserve spit, but later on (c. 7:40pm) appeared to fly off again, calling.
