7 Whooper Swans
Not much to report from this morning's walk around the lake, but after lunch I had to call at the supermarket in Littleborough, so took my bins to have a quick scan over the water. The weather had improved and it was sunny and warm, with lots of people milling about. I was therefore rather surprised to see a party of swans just off the rowing club car park area, quite close in to the shoreline. Once I got my bins on them it was immediately clear that they were Whoopers, rather early and appearing somewhat incongruous in the warm September sunshine.
I didn't have my camera with me so I nipped back home for it and returned to get some photos. After calling at the shop, I parked up on the car park and the swans were still just offshore, drifting about and bugling. I took some more photos and a little video, and although both Simon and Andrew managed to catch up with them, they were gone by late afternoon/evening.
