Kingfisher, Gadwall, Redwings

Cloudy, clearing to sunshine, cool.

There looked to be a break in the weather this morning after yesterday evening's heavy rain, so Joanne and I had a walk around the lake.  There were a few clouds around to begin with but it gradually cleared and became sunny.  A Redwing perched out in the open in a Hawthorn in the big hedge, which was quite unusual, but it was a little distant.  We were told by some regular walkers that the Kingfisher was showing, so we hotfooted it to the hide, where it did indeed perform quite well for some time, moving between perches and hovering on several occasions.  I struggled to catch it mid-hover, but managed a couple of shots.   After a while it seemed to be spending more time on the more distant perch in the channel to the left, so after taking some more (not very good) photos of the resident drake Gadwall, we moved on.  There wasn't much else to see of note, but as we stopped to look over Bib Knowl Valley, a Robin perched on the wall in the sunshine just a few feet away, so it seemed rude not to take some photos.
