Goosander

Today was a clear, frosty morning with a deep blue sky.  The walk around the lake was rather uneventful until I reached the far southernmost section where a female Goosander was performing quite well just offshore.

As I walked back to the house, a Starling was perched in the sunshine just at the bottom of our road, showing off its purple and green plumage sheen and pale feather tips. They really are an elegant and underrated species when viewed in the right conditions!
