Redwings, Fieldfares, Stock Doves, 2 Redpoll in garden
A bright sunny morning again, but still with a cool easterly breeze. There seemed to be a fair amount of winter thrush movement this morning. A party of 30 or 40 Redwing perched up in the large Sycamore on the Big Hedge, before flying off towards Pavilion Wood. As I walked along the path, around half a dozen Fieldfare flew overhead, and then shortly after, perhaps the same party of Redwings flew over in the opposite direction. A few Redwings were in Pavilion Wood, and another party of around 20 or 30 flew north across the water shortly afterwards.
I walked down Bib Knowl to Shaw Moss, but didn't really see much else of interest. A few Meadow Pipits flew over, and a probable group of about 8 Linnets flew past, but I was looking through the trees and couldn't get a clear view for long enough to be sure.
Just as I returned home, I noticed a bird on the feeder in the garden and was surprised to see it was a splendid male Redpoll. It flew off as I grabbed my camera and opened the door, but shortly afterwards I noticed two birds perched in the trees in next door's garden. By positioning myself with the sun behind, I was able to get some half-decent shots.
