Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, Shoveler, Tufted Duck, Gadwall, 4 Snipe
Sun/cloud, hazy, calm, 9°C
Had a productive walk this morning with Joanne, since we were both off work. The conditions were calm but with a noticeable haze in the air. As soon as we arrived I could see a small group of ducks out in the middle, but the sun was right in our eyes, so we had to walk around to Rakewood Road to confirm my suspicions - a f/imm Pochard, along with 3 Goldeneye and a Tufted Duck, as well as 3 Teal.
A Cormorant fished close to the shoreline by the Wine Press, and as we reached the reserve, I could see a drake Shoveler sitting on the edge of the mud. On the reserve itself, the drake Gadwall was showing a little better than previously, and there were 4 Snipe in their usual spot, visible from the path.
We walked around to the Cafe area, where I spent a little time photographing the various ducks, though they were always quite distant.
On the way back, a cracking Starling sat up in the early morning sunshine. What a superb bird they are up close!
