Sedge Warbler, pair Blackcap, 2 Common Sandpipers, Whitethroat, Swifts

A lovely sunny morning today, and I was rewarded when walking along Rakewood Road with a singing Sedge Warbler in the lakeside bushes. It proved to be quite elusive however, and I wasn't able to get a photo before it seemed to move off in the direction of the nature reserve. In the same area a pair of Blackcaps were present. Other species seen were a Chiffchaff catching Winter Moth larvae, and a singing Song Thrush in the big hedge. There seemed to be lots of Swifts around this morning too.

From the hide, two Common Sandpipers were on view, but as is often the case on a sunny morning, they were very much against strong light.

I walked down to Shaw Moss, where there were a few butterflies around including Orange-tip and Green-veined White, and at Shaw Moss itself, a Whitethroat sang and showed briefly. A distant fox sat for some time in the field opposite but was flushed shortly after by a dog walker. At Peanock farm were several Swallows, some perching on the overhead wires.
