16 Sanderling, Osprey

The Sanderling numbers had been increasing at Blackstone Edge so I went up again early this morning and counted 16. They were somewhat scattered though and difficult to get them all in the frame at one time, so the accompanying photo just shows 10.

In the afternoon, we were hosting Jean's 80th birthday party at our house. I was cleaning the bottom patio in readiness when I heard a gull calling overhead, and when I looked up I realised it was harassing an Osprey - a garden tick!  Luckily Joanne was with me so she dashed inside for my camera and I was able to get some photos before it moved off in the direction of Hollingworth Lake.  I put the word out and dashed over to the lake but there was no sign; it must have passed straight through.
